Obituary: Edith R. Warner, 94; Formerly Of West Haven

She was an elementary school teacher in West Haven public schools for many years, including 27 years teaching fourth grade at Pagels School.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From Porto Funeral Home): Edith Ringwall Warner, 94, of Wallingford formerly a lifelong resident of West Haven until moving to Ashlar Village one year ago beloved wife of 71 years to David R. Warner passed away peacefully on November 17, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home.

Loving mother of Deborah (Matthew) Smith of West Haven, Barbara (Matthew) Heafy of Cheshire and Gary (Carol) Warner of Durham. Grandmother of Rachel (Jonathan) Gryak, Jessie (Ross) Richart, David (April) Smith, Ryan (Amanda) Heafy, Christopher (Paola) Warner, Justin (Katelyn) Heafy, Julieanne (Patrick) Ferguson and Lauren (Juan Carlos) Tapia. Also survived by 14 great grandchildren. Sister of the late Douglas Ringwall.

Edith was born in New Haven on July 16, 1928 daughter of the late Edward and Marion Eiter Ringwall.

Edith graduated from New Haven State Teachers College (now Southern Connecticut State University). She was an elementary school teacher in West Haven public schools for many years, the last 27 of those years teaching fourth grade at Pagels School.

Edith was a member of First & Wesley United Methodist Church. Over the years, she served the Lord at this church as an organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher. She also served as a trustee and a member of the administrative board and on many other committees.

Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved to cook and published the Warner Family and Friends Cookbook in 2006. This is a keepsake that will be used for generations. She taught all her granddaughters to make Swedish Coffee Bread, a Christmas tradition in the family. Edith also loved music and gave piano lessons to several of her grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service in the First & Wesley United Methodist Church, 89 Center Street, West Haven MONDAY morning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call at the church MONDAY morning from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First & Wesley United Methodist Church, 89 Center Street, West Haven, CT 06516. Arrangements are in care of the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven.
