Obituary: Elizabeth Driend, 75, Of West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Elizabeth Driend, 75, of West Haven, passed away on August 23, 2023. She was born in Aughnasheelin, County Leitrim, Ireland, on March 7, 1948, a daughter of the late Francis and Margaret Dolan Smyth.

Elizabeth is survived by her beloved husband, Martin E. Driend; loving son Martin F. (Taryn) Driend; grandchildren Camdyn, Luke and Kelson; sisters Margaret Bohan of Hamden, Bridget (Tommy) O'Dea of New Haven, Celia (Denis) Smith of Leitrim, Ireland; brothers Gerald (Mariam) of Leitrim, Ireland, and Patrick (Imelda) of London, England; sister-in-law Ann Smyth of Hamden; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Cannon; brothers John and James Smyth; sister-in-law Regina Ventura; and brothers-in-law Michael Bohan and Hubert James Cannon.

Elizabeth cherished her title as “Grammy” to her beloved grandchildren, and very much enjoyed gathering for family occasions. She was a true "hockey mom" and enjoyed attending her son, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces sporting events.

After retiring from the West Haven Board of Education, she devoted her time to her grandchildren.
