Obituary: Harry P. Miconi, 87, Of West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Harry P. Miconi, 87, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, just days after celebrating his 59th wedding anniversary.

Harry is the beloved husband of Donna Crotty Miconi. He was born in New Haven, January 15, 1936, son of the late Louis and Anna Scavone Miconi. Loving father of Kimberly Miconi (Chris Hall) of West Haven, Pat Miconi (Jackie) of North Branford, Michelle McQuillan (Jim) of Southbury, and Debra Miconi of Manchester.

Brother of Louis Miconi and Anna Vaccaro both of West Haven and brother-in-law of John Crotty, of South Carolina. Harry was “Pop Pop” to grandchildren, Ashley Wiles (Travis), Shelby Saleeba, Joseph (Nelly) Saleeba, Patrick Miconi, Jada Miconi, Alexis Miconi, Harrison McQuillan and Mitchell McQuillian, as well as two great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best dog, Pal.

Harry was predeceased by brothers, Frank Miconi and Anthony Miconi, and his sisters, Eunice Mazzerelli, Angie Criscuolo, Mary Criscuolo, and Vicky Maccio and brother-in-law Gene Crotty. He is also predeceased by his grandson Jonathan Saleeba.

Harry was a member of the Army National Guard and also served his country in the Army during the Korean War, where he had a short stint in the Boxing Club (Kid Slug). Harry’s first job was at the age of 8, as a shoe shiner on the corner of Congress Avenue. He was a painter for over 60 years starting out with Miconi Bros. Inc., then onto Harry Miconi Painting. He was also a member of the Woodbridge Sportsman’s Club.

Harry, fondly known as Half-Day-Harry was one of nine children. He loved sharing memories of growing up with his big Italian family on Legion Avenue in New Haven and eventually moving to West Haven. Harry loved traveling with his wife, listening to Italian House Party on the radio, taking trips to the casino and most of all spending time with his family.

Harry will be remembered for his easy laugh, extreme generosity towards family and friends, his innate humor when he was not even trying to be funny and most of all his love for his Donna. No one was ever a stranger in his home. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

The hours for visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home, Military Honors will follow. Interment will be private.
