Obituary: ​James H. “Jim” Oberempt 79, of West Haven

Jim was remarkable in his ability to turn any event into a celebration and delighted in telling stories of his many adventures.

James H. “Jim” Oberempt 79, of West Haven beloved husband of 56 years to Denise Arel Oberempt passed away on August 2, 2022 surrounded by his family at CT. Hospice. Loving father of April (Paul) Kelley and James P. (Theresa) Oberempt. Grandfather of Christopher (Natalie) Kelley, Andrew Kelley and Caitlin and James L. Oberempt.

He was born in West Haven on January 29, 1943 the eleventh child of Leroy L. and Margaret Farrell Oberempt. Brother of Loretta Vitali, Ruth Howard, Rose Pysz, Paul (Kathy) Oberempt and the late Viola Palmer, Margaret “Peggy” Oberempt, Ann Beuhler, Marie Meskill, Eileen Greene, William and Leroy P. and Bernard Oberempt.

Before retiring, Jim was a truck driver working for both St. Johnsbury and ABF. Jim enjoyed the open-road and travelled extensively with his family throughout the United States and the Caribbean.

Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Jim’s life.His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 830 Jones Hill Rd. West Haven TUESDAY morning at 9:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church 300 Captain Thomas Blvd. West Haven at 9:30. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call MONDAY from 5pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT. Hospice www.hospice.com or Smilow Cancer Hospital at YNHH www.givetoynhh.org.
