Obituary: John D. DeFrank, 93, Of West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From Porto Funeral Home): John D. DeFrank, 93, beloved husband of 42 years to Anne Proto DeFrank of West Haven passed away February 13, 2023 after a brief illness.

Loving father of Elaine (Alan) Pace of Kissimmee, FL and John (Susan) DeFrank of Guilford and stepfather of Wayne (Kim) Mitchell of Milford, Greg (Elaine) Mitchell of Clinton, Dennis Mitchell of Chino Valley, AZ, Sheryl Phillips of Hamden, Gail Esposito of West Haven and the late Brenda Esposito. Caring brother of Richard (Mena) DeFrank of Willington, CT and the late Robert and James DeFrank Jr. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

John was born in New Haven on January 11, 1930, a son of the late James and Stella Sinkowski DeFrank.

Prior to his retirement, John was president of the former DeFrank & Sons Janitorial Services of New Haven, which ran for nearly 50 years with his father and brothers. He was an avid sportsman fishing, hunting, etc. and was the founder and president of the Woodbridge Sportsman Club in North Guilford for 62 years.

Family and friends may call at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven, Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Parlor Service will be held at 6 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
