Obituary: John M. Civitillo, 94, Of West Haven

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a teacher, then vice principal, and ultimately retired as a principal in Milford.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): John M. Civitillo, 94, of West Haven, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 7, 2023. He was born in New Haven, son of the late John and Anna Zullo Civitillo.

John is survived by his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Stella DeAngelo, Joseph Civitello, Mary Petrucci, Julia Raucci, Annette Rose, Victoria Onofrio and Simon Civitello.

John graduated from West Haven High School Class of 1946. He then joined the Army, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. During his service, he supervised a 30-member Regimental Headquarters Company, Personal Dept.

After his time in the military, John returned to further his education. He received his bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University, his Master of Arts and 6th Year certification from the University of Connecticut.

His entire teaching career was served with the Milford Board of Education. His tenure began as a teacher, then vice principal, and ultimately retiring as a principal. John was a member of the Teachers Association, the Personnel Policy Committee, the president of the Principals Association and vice principal of the Milford citywide P.T.A.
