Obituary: Kenneth L. Ruggiero, 62, Of West Haven
A lifelong 'Westie,' he was nicknamed "Froggy" in his early high school days by close friends, and it stayed with him for his entire life.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Kenneth L. Ruggiero, 62, of West Haven, died on November 9, 2021. Born in New Haven on February 11, 1959, a son to the late Ernest and Phyllis (Dube) Ruggiero Sr. Survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Catherine (Nugent) Ruggiero; children Angela, Christina, and Denise Ruggiero; sister Sharon Smith; stepchildren Stacey, John, and Joseph Alberino; as well as grandchildren Antonio “Tony”, Kahlil, Josiah, and Jaden. Kenneth was predeceased by his stepdaughter Lynn Alberino; sister Jeannette Poleio; as well as brothers Roy “Teddy” Ruggiero and Ernest “Buddy” Ruggiero Jr.
A lifelong ‘Westie’, Ken was given the nickname “Froggy” in his early high school days by close friends, of which stayed with him for his entire life. As the story goes, while traversing a local riverbed, his friends noticed him hopping from rock-to-rock, as if he were a leapfrog. One of them yelled out, “Hey Froggy!”, and the rest is history. An avid collector of Hot Wheels, he amassed a collection of over 5,000 individual units. Aside from the enjoyment he received from cooking, Ken was an avid football fan- particularly the New York Jets… despite marrying a true Giants fan! Froggy will be missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Funeral Home. Subsequent services will be private.
