WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Madison “Madi” Cicarella, 13, of West Haven, passed on July 16, 2021, surrounded by her family after a seven-month courageous battle with cancer. Her greatest passion was that of dance, she was a member of the Top Hat Dance Academy and often competed in various arenas along the entire East Coast.

A dedicated hockey fan, she enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams, including the West Haven Blue Devils, the Yale Bulldogs, and the Washington Capitals.

Often helping her mother volunteer at the West Haven Animal Shelter, Madi was also passionate about animals; most especially her dog Merida, whom she helped raise as a bottle-baby and lovingly referred to as “sister.”

Her professional aspiration was to become either a physician’s assistant or doctor one day, so much so that she earnestly studied medical terminology while being cared for, and knew much of what her doctors and treatment team were referencing during their conversations.

Madi was known for her contagious giggles and effervescent smile that would light up the entire room. She was a strong-minded, loving, caring and kindhearted girl that looked up to her household members, including her devoted mother, uncles, grandparents and great-grandmother. She was the heart of her family, and always will be.

Madi was thrilled by the 2020 birth of her baby cousin, Cali Cangiano, as baby Cali had a special way of making Madi smile during her hardest days. To say she will be sorely missed would be an understatement, as to know her- was to love her.

Madison is survived by her mother Nikki Stancarone; father Alexander Alfaro; grand-father Luigi Cangiano (Non); uncles Michael aka "Goo Goo" and Brandon Cangiano aka "Uncle B"; many additional family members, and countless friends. Madison was predeceased by her grandmother Gina Marie Cangiano (Neena) and great-grandmother Charlesina Stancarone (Bauchie).

Calling Hours will take place on Tuesday, July 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home for A Mass of Christian Burial, which will commence at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 300 Capt. Thomas Blvd., West Haven. Interment will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
