Obituary: Naomi ‘Norma’ Guerra, 95, Of West Haven

Her love for children led to a career with the West Haven Board of Education until she retired from Savin Rock Community School.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Naomi “Norma” Guerra, 95, on October 5, 2023. Norma spent her lifetime dedicated to her loving family.

Always there to lend a helping hand, a warm embrace, and a voice of reason when needed. She was a devoted and supportive wife to former Mayor of West Haven, Azelio “Sal” Guerra for 65 years.

Her love for children led to a career with the West Haven Board of Education until she retired from her position as Secretary at Savin Rock Community School. Her retirement years were shared between Branford, CT and Naples, FL where she developed a passion for the game of golf. Her vibrant personality will long be remembered by many friends who enjoyed her beautiful singing voice and exuberance for life.

Born in Shelton, CT, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Angelina (D’Elia) Pisacane. Norma was the loving mother of two caring daughters, Elizabeth (Anthony) Aceto of Branford, CT and Linda Guerra of Saco, ME.

She embraced her role as a mother with warmth and dedication, instilling in them values of love, kindness, and the importance of family.

Her legacy lives on through her daughters and five grandchildren, Stephanie (Craig Maturo) Caruso, Jason (Jill) Caruso, Brad (Kira) Chvisuk, Alexandra (John Ryan) Aceto, Ana Guggenheim, and five great-grandchildren. Her unconditional love was a constant presence in their lives, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Norma was predeceased by her loving husband Azelio “Sal” Guerra, grandson Bryan Chvisuk, and six siblings. Her memory will continue to inspire all of us to embrace the bonds of love and family that she held so dear.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time her funeral service will commence in the funeral parlor. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in memory of her beloved grandson Bryan to the Bryan E. Chvisuk Memorial Scholarship, Xavier High School, 181 Randolph Road, Middletown, CT 06457.
