WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Sue Enright Kelly, entered into rest on November 13, 2022. She was so many things to so many people- first and foremost the wife of Kevin W. Kelly and the proud mother of Danny and Jeff Hill.

She cherished her sisters Marge (Ken) Lafex and Mary (Dennis) Villani, and Kevin’s son Charlie Kelly and Amyah, three nieces and a nephew. Her parents, Cornelius F. (Connie) and Jane Whitaker Enright predecease her.

Her friends are too numerous to name because Sue made everyone feel as though they were the most important person in the world. Wife, mother, sister, childhood friend, coworker, neighbor, the list goes on.

If you knew Sue, you belonged to her. No one called 911, you called Sue first for medical questions. St. Patrick’s Day at Kelly’s on Campbell, which she and Kevin owned, meant literally walking into Sue’s bar and kitchen, including shepherd’s pie and endless fun. Sue was born at the beach and lived her whole life along the shoreline. If you were looking for her, she could be found floating on her raft at the end of the street or holding court on her front porch.

In her professional life, Sue followed in the footsteps of her late mother in her career choice, the medical field. She exemplified the qualities of a true nurse, filled with compassion and care, tough when she had to be, humorous when needed. She made her first nursing rounds at the West Haven Veterans Hospital.

A few years later, she transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she worked for 35 years until the time of her death. At Yale, she began in the dialysis unit, then the G.I. clinic and ultimately in the photopheresis treatment center.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WHEAT, 674 Washington Ave., West Haven, CT. 06516.
