Obituary: Thomas E. Heffernan, 82, Of West Haven
He was a star athlete at West Haven High School, lettering in football, hockey, and baseball, and worked for the State of Connecticut.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Thomas E. Heffernan, 82, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford, with his family by his side.
Tim was born in New Haven on May 19, 1940, a son to the late former Mayor of West Haven William J. and Genevieve (Reynolds) Heffernan.
Tim grew up in West Haven where he was a star athlete at West Haven High School, lettering in football, hockey, and baseball. Tim was co-captain of the 1957 West Haven High School football team. He went on to play Division I hockey at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, and at one point, was the only American-born player on his team. He received his degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University.

Tim worked his entire career for the State of Connecticut as a Civil Engineer until retirement.
Throughout his adult life, Tim was an avid golfer and was a member of the Orange Hills CC Association and participated in several leagues such as the Knights of Columbus league, Sunday Early Birds, and the Golden Knights. He was an annual member of the yearly Irish-Italian match, held in Wilmington, VT.

In his final years, Tim split his time residing in South Pasadena, Florida, and West Haven, CT. In addition to golf, Tim enjoyed walking the boardwalk at his condominium at West Walk, listening to opera music, and spending time with his friends.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents as well has his brothers William J. Heffernan Jr. and Gerald Heffernan, his sister-in-law Judith Heffernan, and his companion Carol Jones. He is survived by his brothers Judge E. Michael (Jane) Heffernan and Robert Heffernan, sisters-in-law Evelyn Heffernan and Susan Heffernan, many cousins including Roderick McDonald and Loretta Winch, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 22, at 9:30 a.m., in Our Lady of Victory Church (the former St. John Vianney) in West Haven. Attendees are asked to meet directly at the Church. Interment will immediately follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
