Obituary: Thomas P. Turpin, 67, Of West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Thomas P. Turpin, 67, of West Haven, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 6, 2023. He was the loving husband of Geraldine Foley Turpin.

Thomas was born in New Haven, son of the late James and Rose Palmisano Turpin. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas Turpin, Jenelle Turpin, William Turpin and Jeremy Turpin, his grandchildren Eric, Tiffani, Alison and Ashlley Turpin, his great grandson, his siblings Kathleen O’Neil, June Turpin, James Turpin, and 6 nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his brother Phillip Turpin and his sisters Mary Turpin and Betty Northrup.

Tom was a self-educated businessman. He started his career working as a truck driver for Mayflower. He would later own and operate the very successful Elm City Movers, Turpin Transportation, Complete Construction and Remodeling, TPT Estates and Turpin Truck and Auto Service.

The best way to describe him was as a workaholic. Tom was a mentor to many truckers and a well-respected figure in his neighborhood. He was always plowing driveways after every snowstorm. Tom was a problem solver; no job was too big or too small. He generously gave a helping hand, when needed, to everyone.

Tom loved all children and was especially a devoted father and grandfather. He was a very close brother, who always supported his siblings.

Tom was married to his wonderful wife, Geraldine for 35 years. Geraldine was always his partner in life as in work. They were lovingly referred to as the “Tom & Gerri” Team, doing everything together. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and golf, when he was not working.

The hours for visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. for a Graveside Service in Evergreen Cemetery at 11am.
