Obituary: Walter Stone Casey, 79, Of West Haven

Walter, who served 48 years with the West Haven Police Department, was a member of the West Haven Elks and the West Haven Emerald Society.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): Walter Stone Casey, 79, of West Haven, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 26, at St. Raphael’s Hospital.

Born in West Haven, Walter was the son of the late Joseph E. Casey and Marjorie Stone Casey. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce E. Morgan Casey; their three daughters, Melissa Casey (Todd Thurlow) of Kensington, N.H.; Megan Casey Pollock (Jeff) of Beacon Falls; and Meredith Casey (Jim Cain) of Norwalk; and their two grandchildren, Casey Pollock and Madeline Pollock. He also is survived by his brother, Joseph E. Casey of West Haven; sister-in-law, Sandra J. Kent of Mesa, Arizona; and brother-in-law, John (Susan) Morgan of Woodbury.

Walter began his illustrious 48-year career with the West Haven Police Department, working as a supernumerary patrolman in 1968. A year later, he became a full-time patrolman. He was promoted to detective in 1972, then to patrol sergeant in 1979 and detective sergeant in 1986, a position he held until his retirement in 2016.

He served as a West Haven Police Union leader for 23 years, including 16 years as president. He also was a former member of the West Haven Elks and the West Haven Emerald Society.

Walter and Joyce, their three daughters and two grandchildren enjoyed spending time together and dining at his favorite restaurants in greater New Haven. He enjoyed his daily three-mile walk, where he often photographed sunrises. Walter will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was quick with a joke and lived life to the fullest.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 2, from 4 to 7 o’clock. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 o’clock, in the funeral parlor followed by interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
