Obituary: William Sarno, 81, Of West Haven

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he worked for the Armstrong Rubber Company, Union Trust Bank of New Haven, and the West Haven Board of Education.

WEST HAVEN, CT — (From West Haven Funeral Home): William Sarno, 81, of West Haven, entered into rest on September 5, 2023. Born in New Haven on November 7, 1941, a son of the late William F. and Lucy (Esposito) Sarno.

Survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Susan Cooley Sarno; daughters Gina (Manny) Ribeiro and Samantha Goodstal; grandchildren Nicholas Ribeiro, Lily and Claire Goodstal; sister-in-law Madeline Sarno; longtime friend Kathy St. Clair; as well as many nieces and nephews. Additionally preceded in death by siblings Anthony Sarno, Frank Sarno, Louie Sarno, Maryann Mendoza, Jeanne Sarno; as well as best friend Ray St. Clair.

After graduating from Wilbur Cross High School, Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force. Upon his return to West Haven, he met his wife while working within the computer department of Armstrong Rubber Company. He later became a branch manager for the Union Trust Bank of New Haven, and upon retirement, worked with the West Haven Board of Education.

A lifelong New York Giants fan, Bill also enjoyed bowling, painting, going to the movies, and taking long drives with Sue.

More than anything else, he was a proud grandfather and cherished his time with his family, all of whom will sadly miss him.
