Police Chief Tried To Fire West Haven Cop Twice: Report

The chief's attempt to fire the officer, who has a nearly 1,000-page disciplinary file, was reversed by the Board of Police Commissioners.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven police officer who has been accused of using excessive force could be a “significant liability” due to a history of using “poor judgment and questionable actions,” according to a report by WTNH News 8.

WTNH reports West Haven Police Chief John Karajanis has tried to fire Officer Joseph Riehl twice but the Board of Police Commissioners voted unanimously to reverse the action.

Riehl, who has been on the force for less than three years, has a nearly 1,000-page disciplinary file, according to WTNH News 8.
