To facilitate the work, a detour will be in effect, directing all through traffic to Route 1 in West Haven and New Haven.

The detour is expected to remain in place until fall 2027, according to DOT officials.

Officials said the project involves installing a new box culvert to replace the existing structure, which has faced significant subsurface issues.

The infrastructure improvement is critical for maintaining long-term safety and stability in the area, including protecting one of West Haven’s main water supply lines, officials said.

Motorists should anticipate delays during the construction phase and are encouraged to seek alternative routes when possible.

The city appreciates the public’s patience while the project is completed.
