She Is ‘Strong & Resilient’: West Haven Star Student
We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in West Haven.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Heather, who nominated Elizabeth (Liz) of West Haven.
How do you know the star local student?
My daughter
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Since she was young, Elizabeth has loved the arts. She loves to sing, act and dance. She is a high school senior and stays busy with activities in her school. She is a member of WHHS Theatre Workshop and is the Social Media manager. She is one of the captains of WHHS Dance Team. She is also a member of the WHHS’s Bel Canto advanced Chorus. She was her Class President through her junior year. She also is involved in WHHS’s Journalism and plans to pursue this in college.
The reason she is beyond amazing to me though is that she has done all of this despite struggling with severe anxiety and depression. She also has a seizure history with a diagnosis of something called Benign Rolandic Epilepsy. Thankfully, this is a type of Epilepsy that most children outgrow. She was finally able to be free of seizure medications by 5th grade.
She is a wonderful girl who is your typical teen too! She has an open mind and is accepting of everyone and often does not hesitate to speak her mind. I could not be prouder to call her my daughter and am so excited to see what the future holds for her.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
She is a strong resilient young lady.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Elizabeth!
