‘Suspicious’ Bag Prompts Evacuation At West Haven High School: Police
Police inspected the building after receiving a report of a suspicious bag inside the school's main building, according to officials.

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven High School has been deemed safe following an investigation into a suspicious bag that led to the school’s evacuation, police said in an update on Monday afternoon.
Police received a call on Monday morning reporting a suspicious bag that was inside the school’s main building.
“This prompted an immediate response by members of the West Haven Police Department and Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad,” police wrote in a news release. “The school was immediately evacuated and all students and faculty were kept in safe and secure locations. Upon completion of the building’s inspection, it was deemed safe and we released the building back to the Board of Education. We apologize for any inconveniences this caused, however, we must take all incidents of this nature serious to maximize the safety of our students and faculty.

“This incident is being investigated by our Detective Division and no further details will be released at this time.”

“While nothing credible has been found, students remain evacuated while the PD thoroughly investigates,” officials wrote in a post on Twitter. “At this time, WHPD cannot allow anyone to enter or exit the area.
“Parents whose students are enrolled in camps or classes at the school will receive a call within the next few minutes. We have busses staged nearby to take students home as soon as WHPD gives the all clear. All students are accounted for and safe.”
West Haven Police and Connecticut State Police are at West Haven High School investigating a "suspicious item complaint," according to police.
"The school grounds are currently evacuated and closed for safety," police wrote in a post on Facebook. "Updates will follow. Please avoid the area at this time. All students and faculty are safe and accounted for."
