Victim Pistol-Whipped In Attempted Car Theft: West Haven Police

The victim was fighting with the car thief in the middle of the road when he was struck with a pistol in the face, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A man was pistol-whipped while trying to stop his car from being stolen late Friday night in West Haven, according to police.

Police responded around 11:05 p.m. on Feb. 2 to a 911 call reporting two men actively fighting in the middle of Lawncrest Road Ext. The caller reported that a gun was involved in the fight, according to police.

The victim told police that he was warming his vehicle in his driveway when a man, later identified as 21-year-old Miguel Roman, entered his car and drove away in it.

The victim said he started to run after the car when he saw it turn onto the dead end of Lawncrest Road Ext., according to police.

The fight took place on the dead end, where police said Roman used a pistol to strike the victim in the face and then ran away.

Police said the victim sustained a large cut to his face and was taken to an area hospital for further medical assistance.

“Officers then began searching the area and a K9 track was conducted,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “While tracking, a BB gun, ski mask and additional items of evidentiary value were located.”

Roman was found nearby and “immediately surrendered” to officers after seeing the K-9, according to police.

Roman was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault with a firearm, larceny of a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree criminal trover and first-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
