A portion of the beach was gouged by the heavy rain caused by Hurricane Ida.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Parts of the West Haven beach near Lake Street off Ocean Avenue were severely damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, according to the New Haven Register.

Public Works Commissioner Tom McCarthy told the Register that the heavy rain left an estimated 40-foot-wide and 8-foot deep “gouge through the beach.”

Crews also worked overnight to tow abandoned vehicles that were driven into flooded underpasses, according to the Register.
