Borer played Cupid and presented the Douglases with a citation for “the longest-married couple.”

When the mayor inquired about the couple’s secret to a long-lasting marriage, Moses Douglas responded, “You have to love one another, trust one another and have faith in one another,” drawing applause from the other couples.

Elderly Services Director Alyssa Maddern coordinated and hosted the luncheon, one of the senior center's many special events organized by Maddern.

Borer, who was joined by Councilman Peter Rivera, D-at large, then asked the couples to raise their glasses for a toast to all couples and a special toast to the Douglases, exclaiming, “Congratulations on 70 years of marriage!”
