West Haven Man Arrested On Federal Gun Charge
Authorities say the man, a convicted felon, is accused of being involved in drug trafficking and was in the possession of a gun.
WEST HAVEN, CT — A convicted felon from West Haven was arrested Thursday on a federal gun charge after authorities said he was found to be involved in drug trafficking and was in possession of a gun. Cedric Goodwin, also known as “Ceddyo,” 31, faces up to 10 years in prison on the federal charge, according to officials.
According to the federal complaint, Goodwin attempted to enter a bar on Crown Street in downtown New Haven during the early morning hours on Sept. 22, 2019. During a pat-down search by a security worker, a firearm magazine fell from Goodwin’s right ankle area, according to authorities.
“Goodwin retrieved the magazine and left the establishment,” officials wrote in a news release. “The security worker notified nearby New Haven Police officers who subsequently located Goodwin. As they approached Goodwin, the officers heard the sound of an object hitting the ground. Goodwin was detained, and a search of the area revealed a firearm magazine containing eight rounds of .380 caliber ammunition.”

“It is alleged that law enforcement recently received information that Goodwin was engaged in narcotics trafficking activity and was in possession of a firearm,” the news release states. “Goodwin was arrested this afternoon after investigators conducted a court-authorized search of the residence and, in the garage, found a Smith and Wesson revolver, several rounds of assorted ammunition, multiple baggies of suspected heroin, a quantity of marijuana, and items used to process and package drugs for street sale.”
Goodwin was presented in court via videoconference due to the coronavirus pandemic and was ordered detained by the judge, officials said.
The charge of possession of a firearm carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.
