West Haven Man Credited With Stopping Runaway Rail Cars On Train

The man is being credited with stopping two runaway passenger cars on a train on Thanksgiving Eve.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven man is being credited with stopping two runaway passenger cars on an Amtrak train Wednesday night in Stuyvesant, New York, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports Reuben Clarke, a 2018 graduate of Notre Dame-West Haven, pulled the emergency brake at the front of the car when two of the passenger cars separated from the rest of the train.

The train was carrying 287 passengers and crew when the incident occurred. One of the passengers told CNN that Clarke "saved our lives tonight.”

Clarke is a freshman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a member of the football team.
