West Haven Man Indicted On Federal Drug Charge

WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven man was recently indicted by a federal grand jury on accusations that he distributed narcotics in and around New Haven, according to officials.

Levern Marion, 35, was charged with possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and a quantity of fentanyl, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Vanessa Roberts Avery, Stephen Belleau, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England, and New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson announced in a joint news release.

The indictment was returned on May 1. Marion appeared Tuesday in New Haven federal court and pleaded not guilty to the charge, according to officials.

Authorities said an investigation that included surveillance, trash pulls, and traffic stops found that Marion was distributing controlled substances in and around New Haven. He was arrested on March 27.

“On that date, a court authorized search of a New Haven residence connected to him revealed approximately 800 grams of cocaine, approximately 260 grams of crack cocaine, and numerous wax folds containing fentanyl,” officials wrote in the news release.

If convicted of the charge in the indictment, officials said Marion faces a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years.

Marion has been detained since his arrest.
