West Haven Resident, Dorinda Keenan Borer, Awarded at the St. Patrick's Day Ball!
The Associated Irish Societies proudly Announce the Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Ball at Anthony's Ocean View on Friday Feb. 24.
Cornelius Driscoll was the first immigrant to serve as Mayor of the City of New Haven in the early 1900s. He spent his life serving the public for the better of humanity. This year’s award recipient is Dorinda Keenan Borer, who exemplifies that same commitment to serving the public.
Dorinda has been a champion for many causes but her passion has been and remains child advocacy. While serving on the Board of Education for the City of West Haven, she led the way transforming and modernizing programs to ensure the health and wellness for students, and with particular emphasis on a state of the art healthy eating program.
While First Lady of the City of West Haven, Dorinda used her platform to begin an early childhood development commission, which still goes strong today. She created new models that focused on child safety.
Two of Dorinda’s most valued Boards of Director positions include ACES - which services special needs students in the New Haven Region; and the Clifford Beers Clinic, which is the oldest mental health clinic for children in the country.

Today Dorinda leads the Elks Drug Awareness program for children. And as a Rotarian she leads the vocational committee, which gives out scholarships and items of need such as dictionaries, nooks, and coats to students in lower income populations. She’s was recently named “West Haven’s Person of the Year” based on her dedication and volunteerism. Dorinda was recently appointed to serve on the greater New Haven tourism and marketing bureau. And she has been a justice of the peace for 17 years.
Through the years, Dorinda has represented her Irish Heritage well. She served as president of her local Irish Club, and worked tirelessly on the New Haven Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, earning her the honorable position of Grand Marshall in 2003. In fact, while chairman, it was she, along with her colleague John Doyle, who first introduced the Cornelius Driscoll Award. Congratulation to an award well deserved!
