West Haven Resident Earns GNAC Weekly Honor

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven’s Isabella Fiorillo, a sophomore on the Albertus Magnus College women’s basketball team, was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s weekly honor roll.

Albertus Magnus teammate Ariellys Velez, of Watertown, was named the GNAC’s Rookie of the Week.

The Falcons went 2-0 on the week with conference wins over Elms and Norwich.

Fiorillo, a West Haven High School graduate, scored a career-high 27 points in the team’s 65-52 win over Elms on Jan. 20, hitting four 3-pointers with three rebounds and three steals as she played all 40 minutes.

In the 69-65 win over Norwich on Jan. 24, Fiorillo played all 40 minutes once again, scoring 12 points with six rebounds.

Velez scored 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting with three rebounds in the win over Elms. Against Norwich, Velez scored a game-high 23 points, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range to go with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
