West Haven Reverting To Phase 2 Of CT's Reopening Plan
"We are urging you and your families to continue to treat this disease seriously," officials said regarding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven is temporarily reverting to Phase 2 of Connecticut’s Reopening Plan, Mayor Nancy R. Rossi announced Thursday.
West Haven will revert to Phase 2 starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30 and will reassess the decision within two weeks, according to Rossi.
Rossi said the decision was made following new guidance from Gov. Ned Lamont on Thursday afternoon.

“Our nation and state have had an alarming increase in COVID-19 cases resulting in further action being taken to ensure the health and safety of our community is protected,” Rossi said in a joint statement with Director of Public Health Maureen Lillis.
West Haven has had 1,377 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 72 residents died from the virus.

“We are urging you and your families to continue to treat this disease seriously,” the statement reads.
West Haven is listed as “level orange,” which means residents should avoid larger events and gatherings, the size of public events must be scaled back, and indoor events where social distancing and mask wearing cannot be maintained must be canceled.
“Additionally, all restaurants in the city should close once their kitchens close,” the statement reads. “All restaurants and businesses that do not follow prescribed pandemic guidelines are liable to face penalties and fines from state and local authorities. Due to the increased risk level, the West Haven Health Department and Police Department will increase their efforts in monitoring COVID-19 safety protocols.
“As always, continue to practice social distancing, wear your mask, and wash your hands. These remain the most effective methods in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting your health. If you feel unwell, please stay away from others and take care of your health. COVID-19 has certainly disrupted our normal routines, but we are confident that West Haven in stronger than this pandemic. Continue to support your family and community members in any way possible as we traverse this difficult time.”
