West Haven Teen, 16, Charged In Shooting, Carjacking In Hamden: Police
Two 16-year-olds have been arrested in connection with a carjacking in which a man was seriously injured after being shot in the groin.
HAMDEN, CT — Two juveniles were arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting and carjacking that happened in Hamden in July, according to police.
Police responded to Third Street near Dixwell Avenue on July 21 on reports of a shooting and carjacking, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.
Dolan said the victim, a 46-year-old Hamden resident, was approached by two suspects who demanded his vehicle at gunpoint. During the robbery, the victim was shot in the groin area and suffered serious injuries, according to Dolan.

The suspects stole the man’s vehicle after he was shot, Dolan said.
Detective Shawn Nutcher, along with detectives from the Hamden Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, New Haven Shooting Task Force and NHPD Criminal Intelligence Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the carjacking/shooting, according to Dolan.

A 16-year-old New Haven resident was charged with first-degree robbery with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and first-degree larceny.
The other juvenile, a 16-year-old West Haven resident, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery with a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault with a firearm and first-degree larceny.
Dolan said that at the time of their arrests, both juveniles were already in the custody of juvenile detention on unrelated charges. They are scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court for Juvenile Matters on Sept. 15.
