Winner Declared In West Haven Special Election

The special election to fill West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer's former seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives was held Tuesday.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Democrat Bill Heffernan has declared victory in Tuesday’s special election to fill the vacancy for West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer’s former seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives.

Heffernan, a retired West Haven firefighter, was the endorsed Democratic candidate in the race to fill the seat in the 115th House District.

“Thank you District 115!” Heffernan wrote in a post on Facebook on Tuesday night. “I’m happy to report a resounding victory! You spoke loud and clear today, and I am ready to keep moving West Haven forward. Congratulations to all the other candidates for a well run campaign.”

Heffernan defeated Republican Silvana Apicella and former West Haven Mayor Ed O’Brien, who ran as a petitioning candidate. Former City Councilman Victor Borras also ran as a write-in candidate.

The Connecticut Mirror reported that unofficial results showed Heffernan receiving 54 percent of the vote, followed by Apicella with 22 percent, O’Brien at 21 percent and Borras had 3 percent.
