1 of the 19 Inductees in the Barlow Athletic Hall of Fame Include a Pittsburgh Pirates Pitcher

Nineteen Joel Barlow High School, Redding, Conn. grads will be inducted into the Barlow High School Athletic Hall of Fame this November.

Nineteen Joel Barlow High School grads will be inducted into the Barlow High School Athletic Hall of Fame this November.

Former Falcon Charlie Morton, a Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher and 2002 Barlow graduate, was drafted out of high school by the Atlanta Braves, according to the News Times.

Joel Barlow High School Athletics Hall of Fame said of Morton on their Facebook page: “Class of 2015 inductee Charlie Morton’s line from his start for the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 2nd. Morton pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out a season-high seven.”

The criteria that must be met to be inducted into the JBHS Athletics Hall of Fame state the nominee must have:

  • Graduated from Joel Barlow High School a minimum of ten years prior to his/her nomination selection.
  • Candidates must have exemplified behavior during and after graduation that is a credit to JBHS.
  • Each Nominee must have made a significant achievement in their sport. 
  • Nominees other than athletes may also be inducted. Coaches, sports supportive individuals, doctors, trainers, etc.
  • The candidate must have coached at Joel Barlow High School for at least five years prior to nomination and/or was instrumental in developing and building a new athletic program.

The JBHS Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 14 at Tashua Hills Country Club in Trumbull. Tickets are $75 for adults and $37.50 for children 10 and under.
