30th Annual Weston 5K Memorial Day Road Race Set For May 25

Runners from every category will be joined by joggers, walkers, and usually a baby stroller or two at 30th annual race.

WESTON, CT — The 30th Annual Weston 5k Memorial Day Road Race will be held Saturday, May 25.

The competition is a key component of Weston's Memorial Day Weekend festivities, and traditionally the biggest fundraiser for the Weston High School Parent Teacher Organization. All proceeds from the road race help fund enhancements to Weston High School’s curriculum and other programs.

Runners from every category will be joined by joggers, walkers, and usually a baby stroller or two.

The starter pistol for the 5K running race, adults and students, will sound at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K walkers will step off five minutes later from the front of the high school. The 1-mile Kids' Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. Registration for all events is online here. Organizers are still looking for Race Day volunteers, as well as Family Sponsors.

"It's a great event, because not only are the families who have kids in the school system running, but we have runners come from the Westchester area, so it's also become competitive for a lot of runners," Veronica Lancin, one of the event's organizers, told Patch. "It's an amazing opportunity for people to visit and fall in love with Weston."

New this year will be Weston 5K Merch. The complimentary T-shirts awarded to the runners each year have proven so popular they will be up for sale to everyone at the race, Lancin said.
