CONSERVATION, LAND USE, WATERSHED, and ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION ISSUES
HELP U.S. PROTECT EASTON'S NATURAL BEAUTY: Winged Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus) is a deciduous shrub that tolerates a wide variety of soil, moisture, and light conditions. The plant produces hundreds of seedlings that are spread by wildlife. This shrub forms dense thickets, displacing native wood and herbaceous species in many habitats, including forests and coastal shrublands. DO NOT PLANT! To control: Pull or dig small plants, making sure to remove the entire root. Large plants can be cut at ground level, but repeated cutting will be necessary.

EMS UPDATE: The Town has retained a new environmental consulting firm, EKI, to develop an updated plan for testing and remediating the contaminated soil at the EMS site. Learn more about EKI: https://www.ekiconsult.com/people/. Documents related to the EMS site contamination are available on the Town website: https://www.eastonct.gov/2124/EMS-Site-Contamination-Documents
PUBLIC SAFETY:Please remember to "Slow Down in Our Town" and help keep our roads safe by avoiding speeding. We installed a new radar speed limit warning sign on Center Road near Banks Road near Shaggy Coos farm.

Violating these laws can result in fines and penalties. If you’re unsure whether something is legal, don’t light it. If someone gets hurt or property is damaged, you may have a large civil liability. 2026 REVALUATION INSPECTIONS UNDERWAY: Property inspections for Easton's 2026 Real Estate Revaluation are now underway throughout town, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. Municipal Valuation Services (Munival) representatives may be seen walking properties, taking exterior photos, measuring buildings, and, when scheduled, conducting interior inspections. For more information, visit the Revaluation page on the Town website.
Given the significant increase in property taxes this year, this may also be a good opportunity to remind residents how property taxes are determined. Here’s the link to the Property Taxes Explained page.
HAS YOUR PRIDE FLAG OR SIGN BEEN STOLEN OR VANDALIZED? If your Pride flag or sign is stolen, vandalized, or damaged, please report it to the Easton Police Department's non-emergency line as soon as possible at (203) 268-4111. Police Chief Foti Koskinas has emphasized that the department wants all incidents reported, even if they seem minor. If available, include photos, security camera footage, or any other relevant information. Reporting every incident helps police identify patterns, repeat offenders, and potential suspects, allowing them to respond appropriately and help prevent future incidents. Everyone in Easton deserves to feel welcome, and no one should have their property stolen or vandalized.

THE EASTON SHELTER NEEDS YOUR HELP! The Easton Animal Shelter is currently caring for an influx of cats and dogs and urgently needs the community's support.
Their greatest need right now is foster homes, but they are also desperate for donations of pet food and cat litter to help care for the animals currently at the shelter. If you've ever considered fostering an animal—even for a short time—now is the perfect opportunity. Opening your home to a pet in need provides a safe, loving environment while helping free up space at the shelter for other animals. To make fostering even more accessible, Hidden Gem Animal Rescue (501(c)(3)) is offering community service hours for approved foster volunteers. This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students or anyone needing documented volunteer hours to make a meaningful difference while giving a deserving animal the care and comfort it needs. Every foster home, bag of food, and container of litter makes a real difference. If interested, please reach out to the Easton Animal Control at 203-268-9172. Thank you for supporting the animals in our community!

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday weekend!

CELEBRATE AMERICA'S 250TH WITH THE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH AND THE NATIONAL BELL FESTIVAL! On Saturday, July 4th, at 2:00 PM, the historic bells of the Congregational Church steeple and the Staples Academy cupola will ring out to mark our nation's 250th birthday. These bells, which have called Easton to worship, mourned its losses, and celebrated its milestones for centuries, will join a national commemoration in which communities and congregations across the country ring their bells together as part of America's Semiquincentennial. Coordinated in part by the National Bell Festival, the nationwide ringing brings together bells from every corner of the country in a single day of celebration. Easton's bells will take their place in that chorus that celebrates the bonds of faith and community.

Dr. Roberts will explore the deep and often defiant role that Congregationalist faith played in the American Revolution, illuminating the theological convictions and community bonds that made New England's gathered churches a seedbed of revolutionary thought and action. The event is free and open to the public, and all are welcome. The church hall is now air-conditioned, and refreshments will be served as the community celebrates our nation's 250th birthday together.
