Weston Police Issue Warning About Fundraising Scam

WESTON, CT — Weston police are warning residents about scams involving people who impersonate police departments, charities and other law enforcement organizations.

In a recent public notice, the department reminded residents that it does not solicit donations or request funds by phone, email, text message or mail.

Police said scammers often attempt to pressure residents into sending money or providing personal information by claiming to represent law enforcement or charitable organizations.

Officials noted that the Weston Police Benevolent Association conducts one fundraising mailer each year during the holiday season. According to police, the mailing is completed directly by Weston officers and is not handled by a third-party organization or telemarketing company.

Residents who receive suspicious calls, emails or solicitations claiming to be from the Weston Police Department are advised not to provide payment or personal information and to contact the department directly to verify the request.
