Storm Damages 12 Greenhouses At Easton Farm

The farm said cleanup is already underway after a damaging storm hit the property.

EASTON, CT — Gilbertie's Organics is cleaning up after a severe storm caused significant damage at its Easton farm Friday night.

In a series of Facebook posts, the farm said the storm caused widespread damage and may have involved a microburst or small tornado, though that had not been confirmed.

"This is just a small part of the devastation that happened on the farm last night in what we believe might have been a microburst or micro tornado," the farm wrote.

No one was injured, and the property never lost power, according to Gilbertie's.

The farm said a large oak tree fell during the storm but came down in a way that caused relatively little additional damage.

"The oak tree could have fallen six different ways and caused considerable damage, but fell with minimal damage to the surrounding areas," the farm wrote.

The farm stand also suffered what Gilbertie's described as "considerable wind disruption," but reopened to the public after the storm.

A scheduled farm tour was canceled because of the damage.

In a later update, Gilbertie's thanked residents and others who reached out to offer help and support.

"We are so grateful no one was injured in this severe storm that did so much damage," the farm wrote. "We are working to be back to doing what we do best as quickly as possible."

Cleanup began soon afterward, with the farm saying staff had already made "tremendous progress" and were working to make sure vendors received their orders on time.

Gilbertie's said it plans to continue rebuilding while maintaining operations.

"We will continue to count our many blessings, including all of our many friends," the farm wrote.
