EASTON, CT — An Easton man was sentenced Wednesday to more than three years in federal prison after prosecutors said he repeatedly threatened to kill Fairfield police officers.
Raymond Neuberger, 42, was sentenced to 39 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut. He was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.
According to federal prosecutors, Neuberger sent text messages to another person on April 24, 2025, threatening to kill Fairfield police officers.
Neuberger later stopped his vehicle in the middle of Post Road in Fairfield, yelled profanities and made an obscene gesture at a police officer, prosecutors said. He then drove to the Fairfield Police Department, encountered the same officer and again yelled profanities and made an obscene gesture.
Prosecutors said Neuberger continued making threats in calls to the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center and Fairfield police.
He also sent several threatening text messages to another person, including messages stating, "I'm going to kill all the Fairfield cops," "Tell Fairfield PD I'm close to snapping" and "I'm armed," according to prosecutors.
Neuberger also placed a threatening letter in the mailbox of a neighbor who is an FBI special agent, prosecutors said. The letter told the agent to "BACK THE BUREAU OFF BEFORE ITS TOO LATE."
"Threatening police officers and federal agents who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe is intolerable behavior, and this sentence is warranted," U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan said in a statement.
Neuberger was arrested on related state charges on April 29, 2025. He pleaded guilty in federal court Dec. 18 to transmitting interstate communications containing a threat to injure, according to prosecutors.
Neuberger had been released on bond but was remanded into custody following Wednesday's sentencing.
