Bank Fraud & ID Theft Top Redding Police Blotter June 17-23

REDDING, CT — Fraud, identity theft, and a handful of fender benders were atop the Redding Police Department's blotter last week.

On June 19, a Marchant Road resident complained to police that someone had fraudulently opened a credit card account in the name of her son. The bank, Truist, is located in Georgia, and the woman's son is in Brazil. The investigation remains open, according to Chief Mark O'Donnell.

The next day, a Tunxis Trail resident reported receiving a call from Fairfield Bank, warning that another bank, Varo, had attempted to withdraw funds from their account and was denied. That investigation is also still open.

No one was injured on June 17 when a motorist lost control of their vehicle on the slippery surface of Route 107/Redding Road, striking a utility pole. Police issued an infraction to the driver for speeding.

On June 18, a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 52 and rounding a curve in the Saugatuck Reservoir area drifted into the northbound lane, striking an oncoming vehicle. No one was hurt. Police issued a warning to the southbound motorist for failing to grant one-half of the highway.

No injuries were reported when police say a motorist rear-ended another driver who had slowed down to make a right turn into Pinetree Garage on Route 58/Black Rock Turnpike On June 22. Police issued the motorist a warning for following too closely.
