Banned Books Week Debate @ Easton Public Library
Wednesday, 9/30 @ 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room.

In celebration of Banned Book Week (9/27-10/3), the Easton Public Library is hosting a lively debate by the Joel Barlow High School Debate Team on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room. A roundtable discussion will follow the debate, giving everyone a chance to hear both sides of this controversial topic and then contribute their thoughts and ideas.
Banned Books Week is the national book community’s annual celebration of the freedom to read and is sponsored by the American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Intellectual Freedom. Hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country draw attention to the problem of censorship by mounting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events.
What does it mean to ban or challenge a book? To ban a book is to remove the materials. To challenge a book is when a person (or persons) is attempting to remove materials, restricting the access of others. For more information on Banned Book Week and lists of banned books, see www.bannedbooksweek.org and www.ala.org/bbooks/.
