Barlow Falls To Bunnell In SWC Boys Soccer Semifinals

Zach Zurita and Anthony Amante scored in each half Friday as third-seeded Bunnell defeated Barlow 2-0 in the semifinals of the weather-delayed SWC boys soccer playoffs.

Bunnell will get a finals rematch against Pomperaug, which defeated Bethel 2-1 in overtime in Friday's other semifinal. Pomperaug downed the Bulldogs 2-1 in last year's SWC final.

The title game will be played Monday at Bunnell.

Barlow had reached the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over No. 2 seed Newtown in the quarterfinals.

In the SWC girls playoffs, Pomperaug defeated Barlow in penalty kicks in a quarterfinal game that had been suspended last Saturday due to the snowstorm after a scoreless regulation.

After neither team scored in two overtime periods, Pomperaug outscored the Falcons 3-1 in the penalty kicks to advance.
