Barlow Girls Volleyball Falls To Rocky Hill In Class M finals

Falcons drop 3-2 decision, fall in state final for second straight year

For the second straight year, the Barlow girls volleyball team had to play the role of bridesmaids.

The second-seeed Falcons suffered a 3-2 (25-9, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11) loss to No. 5 Rocky Hill in the Class M finals at Wilby High School in Waterbury.

It marked the second straight year that Barlow lost in the state finals. Last season, it fell in four games to RHAM, which captured its fourth consecutive state crown.

Barlow finished the season at 20-4.

Afer rebounding from a rough first set, the Falcons appeared close to winning the match, holding a 20-15 lead in the fourth game after taking the second and third sets.

However, the Terriers rallied to square the match, then took control late in the firth game, which was close until Rocky Hill pulled away from a 11-9 to win the first girls volleyball state championship in school history.

It was close, but you have to close out," Barlow coach Steve Antal said. "We just couldn't close out." 

All four of Rocky Hill's matches in the state tournament were settled in a fifth set.
