Memorial Day Weekend in Weston
What happens in Weston on Memorial Day Weekend? All fun stuff, that's for sure!
The weather is certainly warming up, and it's looking good for the Memorial Day Weekend. This will be our third weekend in Weston for the holiday weekend, and we have been looking forward to the festivities ever since the umpteenth snow day. What happens in Weston, CT this weekend? Well, it kicks off with the Kid Fun Run at 8 am, followed by the 18th Annual Weston Memorial Weekend 5K Road Race at 8:30 am. The Memorial Day Fair (sponsored by the PTO's of the Hurlbutt Elementary School and the Weston Intermediate School) officially opens at noon and runs through Monday, May 30th. Here's the schedule:
- Saturday, May 28th - 12:00pm to 9:00pm
- Sunday, May 29th - 12:00pm to 9:00pm
- Monday, May 30th - 12:00pm to 5:00pm
We're talking about rides, food, and assorted goodies (last year I found the perfect set of gardening tools at the Weston Garden Club booth) for everyone in your family. Really! Our favorites are the ferris wheel, dizzy dragon or dinosaur, the gigantic slide, roller coaster, and flying elephants. The best part for us this year is that my preschooler is old enough to ride on his own, or with his older sister. Rides will be spread on the fields of the Hurlbutt Elementary School. Tickets are $25 for 22 or a bracelet (for Saturday or Sunday night from 5-9 pm for unlimited rides) for $25.
On Memorial Day, May 30th, the Town's Parade (organized by the Weston Volunteer Fire Department) will be led by Parade Marshall Joseph Spetley at 10:45 am. Line-up starts at 9:30 am at the Weston High School. The parade will go down School Road towards Weston Center and end at the Town Hall on Norfield Road. I didn't believe it until I saw it, but the majority of the Town marches in the parade with one of the many organizations. This year, our family will be split between the Girl Scouts and our preschool, Norfield Children's Center. If your child plays soccer on Saturday mornings with the Weston Soccer Club, there is an opportunity to march with them as well. is also welcoming Westonites to march with them. Maybe next year, Moms in Weston, CT will march together.

Whichever organization your family decides to march with, be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, sunblock, and wheels (bikes, strollers, or wagons for the little ones). Also be on time to meet your group! The road closes at 10:30 am. Some children like to bring candy to toss gently at the parade watchers.
Where can you watch the parade? There are no bad spots along School Road. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Parking is available by the schools, public library, Onion Barn, or Weston Center (by the post office when it is closed). Most important of all, have fun!

After the Parade, stop by the Town Hall gazebo for the laying of a ceremonial wreath at the Memorial Stone near the library.
Finish the day with more rides at the Memorial Day Fair!
Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day Weekend from Moms in Weston, CT.
