UBS Parade Spectacular in Stamford Worth the Trip

Who doesn't like helium balloons? The hours of enjoyment by infants, toddlers, and older children are priceless, until, of course, they let go of the balloons and the screams erupt. Well, your family certainly cannot miss the annual UBS Parade Spectacular because the larger-than-life helium balloons of Hagar the Horrible, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Smurfette, and Maiden London Balloons are making their debut this Sunday, November 20th! Other giant balloons include Sesame Street characters (yes, including Elmo), Kermit, Miss Piggy, Popeye, Paddington Bear, Bob the Builder, Clifford, and more! 

The parade is presented by the Stamford Town Center and The Advocate. This year, the Grand Marshalls are Laura Linney, John Benjamin Hickey and Gabourey Sidibe, and Alan Kalter. In addition to the awesome balloons that you can almost reach up and touch (not really), there will also be marching bands, marching units, clowns, floats, and dance troupes; all dressed in vivid colors. 

Step off is at noon and begins at Summer Street at Hoyt Street; the parade ends on Altantic Street. It runs about an hour and people do go early to claim their spots along the parade line, so bring folding chairs and dress accordingly. Certain streets are closed off, but there is plenty of free parking. The Metro-North will also take you within a 5-minute walking distance from the parade grounds.

Can't make it? How about going on Saturday to watch them INFLATE the balloons? That's a lot of fun, too. And you'll get the first look at all of them! So, Saturday, November 19th from 3 to 6 pm on Hoyt Street at Summer. There will be music, parade talent, and costumed characters to greet and delight all.

This will be our third year going to the holiday parade, and my family is already excited! Aren't you? I promise, there will only be squeals of delight. See you there!
