Charges Filed Against Easton Man in Relation to Suspicious Westport Death

A Bridgeport man was found dead by a jogger in Westport.

According to The Hour, John Lahey, 39 was charged with tampering with evidence, interfering with an officer and breach of peace. He was also charged with violation of probation.

Sandakan Kayan Harrell’s body was found on Patrick Road in Westport in November 2014.

Lahey initially told police that Harrell left his home on Nov. 14, 2014 with an unidentified female, the paper reports. Lahey later told police that he drove Harrell early morning on Nov. 15, 2014 to get help and while driving on Merritt Parkway noticed that he was not breathing. Lahey exited the highway and tried pumping Harrell’s chest but he fell out of the vehicle and he was unable to pick him back up due to his large frame.

Harrell’s cause of death was determined to be acute and chronic substance abuse.

Lahey was arraigned on Wednesday and his bond was lowered from $65,000 to $40,000, the paper reports.
