Coronavirus Easton & Redding: Schools Closed Through March 20
Parents will be notified by the middle of next week if there will be any changes to the school schedule past March 20.
EASTON/REDDING, CT — Easton, Redding and Region 9 Schools Superintendent Tom McMorran has notified families that the public schools in those districts will be closed from March 13 through March 20, in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.
"At this point closing the schools is a prudent measure," McMorran wrote in a letter distributed Thursday afternoon. "For tomorrow and next week, unless there are new developments, we will not have students or staff or faculty come into our buildings. However, twelve-month staff members, including custodians and our main office staff in each school as well as Central Office will report to work."
Teachers will not be assigning work, nor will they be expected to collect or grade materials from their students, between Thursday afternoon and the end of next week.

In an interview with Patch earlier this week, McMorran said, "We have taken every reasonable step that we can think of to improve the cleanliness of the buildings and to introduce greater self care protocols to our kids."
In the letter, the superintendent said he would notify parents by the middle of next week regarding changes to the school schedules, if any, beyond March 20.
