Coronavirus Redding: 2 Cases Confirmed In Town, 618 In State

REDDING, CT — There are 2 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in town, according to the data released Tuesday afternoon by the Connecticut Public Health Department.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced that the state had more than 200 new confirmed coronavirus cases since Monday. The state's total case count is 618 with 71 hospitalizations and 12 deaths.

"With this development Redding residents are reminded to be more adamant than ever with their social distancing," said a spokesperson for the Redding Health Department. "Not feeling sick isn’t a good enough reason to break the social distancing norms because you could be incubating the virus and spreading it inadvertently. Social distancing is primarily about protecting other people by slowing transmission. This includes avoiding getting together with other people if at all possible, working from home, and staying away (at least 6 feet) from others, especially those who are ill."

The U.S. had more than 52,000 coronavirus cases as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to John Hopkins University. There are nearly 15,000 cases in New York City alone. Overall 677 people have died.
