Coronavirus Redding: Closings And Recommendations

REDDING, CT — First Selectwoman Julia Pemberton has announced the steps the Town is taking to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus.

All Park and Recreation and Heritage Center programs at the Redding Community Center are cancelled until further notice.

The extended day childcare program will remain open through Thursday, and then close until further notice.

Easton, Redding and Region 9 schools remain open, as officials work closely with local and state departments of public health, as well as the state department of education, to develop protocols for the event of a school closing.

Pemberton is urging all residents to comply with Gov. Ned Lamont's recommendation to suspend all gatherings of 100 people or more and that everyone practice social distancing by staying at least an arms-length apart and preferably six feet.

"We would like to remind you if you are concerned that you may have COVID-19 illness, stay home and call your doctor for advice before leaving the house and going anywhere," Pemberton said in a letter to residents

The first selectwoman also reminded residents of the guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for limiting the spread of COVID-19.

• Wash hands frequently (best with very warm water and soap with vigorous scrubbing of the fingers for at least 20 seconds, or hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available)
• Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands
• Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands
• Stay home when ill
• Minimize exposure to others who are ill
• Clean surfaces with disinfectant wipes whenever possible
