Coronavirus Weston: Town Confirms First Case

First Selectman Chris Spaulding has confirmed a resident has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

WESTON, CT — First Selectman Chris Spaulding has confirmed a resident has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The announcement came in a video posted Friday on Weston Today.

Spaulding said the confirmation confirmed the Town's strategy: "We need to do our part to make sure this is controlled in Weston. To that extent, I'm going to ask you to continue the good sanitary procedure" of washing hands and refraining from touching faces.

"If you don't have to go out, don't, please," the first selectman said.

Spaulding urged residents who showed symptoms of coronavirus to self-isolate for 14 days. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure and may include fever, cough and shortness of breath.

"With these procedures, we should be able to seriously contain the impact of Weston and protect our most vulnerable and at-risk citizens.

Spauding did not say if the confirmed case was connected in any way to the Weston Racquet Club member who notified the club's management earlier in the week that they had tested positive for COVID-19.

Spaulding declared a State of Emergency in Weston on Monday. The first deaths in Connecticut attributed to the virus, elderly men in Ridgefield and New Canaan, were reported Wednesday.
