COVID Community Response Team Delivers PPE To Southwestern CT

So far volunteers have made and donated nearly 3,000 face shields and 150 protective gowns.

Press release from SHARE the Project, Inc.: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Representative Anne Hughes of Connecticut’s 135th Assembly District created a COVID Community Response Team to address the need for personal protective equipment and other assistance in Southwestern Connecticut.

Rep. Hughes formed the Team in April, recruiting community members and student volunteers.
Within the Team an initiative to manufacture and distribute face shields and protective gowns
was started by Weston resident Jay Friedman and further expanded by students Gwyneth
Feroleto of Easton and Eli Brennan of Weston, who gathered students and other volunteers
throughout their towns.

So far volunteers have made and donated nearly 3,000 face shields and 150 protective gowns. In
a telephone survey of 80 area nonprofits, the Team has identified additional immediate need for
nearly 1500 pieces of PPE. The group is expanding to sew or purchase much-needed face masks
as well as continuing to make shields and gowns, and the Easton Senior Center is helping by
recruiting seniors to sew masks.

On July 14th, Hughes and Brennan delivered masks and 280 face shields to Stamford Hospital.
Personal protective equipment has also been donated to other community organizations including
group homes, the Redding Library, and at-risk community members.

The Community Response Team is seeking volunteers to help build face shields, gowns and
masks, as well as donations to support the purchase of materials. Donations may be made to SHARE the Project, Inc., a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization founded and directed by Community Response Team member Jeanne Newman of Easton.

Donations will be used in full for purchasing supplies to build gowns, shields, and face masks,
and to purchase masks if necessary to meet the need. A donation of forty dollars can make 50
face shields or 35 gowns. Supporters of this effort may go to SHAREtheProject.networkforgood.com to make a tax-deductible donation. Please specify in “notes” CTPPT. The Covid Community Response Team encourages anyone interested in volunteering to build or sew PPE to contact student volunteer Eli Brennan at eli_brennan@outlook.com.
