Crashed Stolen Car Tops Redding Police Blotter For Sept. 18-24

REDDING, CT — A car stolen from a Redding driveway and crashed four towns away was at the top of the Redding Police Department's blotter this past week.
The Redding Police Department is reporting that a 2018 Honda CRV-EX was stolen from a driveway on Bridle Road. The victim told the RPD that the state police had called at 5:43 a.m. to inform her that her Honda has been found, crashed and abandoned, on Route 8 in Ansonia. Up until the state police called her, she was unaware that her car had been stolen, she told the Redding police.
A motorist was admitted to Danbury hospital with minor injuries following a rollover on the passenger side along Route 107 on Sept. 18, the Redding police report. There were no other details available, and the investigation remains open.

There was a two-vehicle accident on the 21st, on a curve in the reservoir area of Route 53. No injuries were reported, and no other details were available at the time of the news RPD news release.
On Sept. 21, a member of the Highway Department spotted a moving van driving over and damaging an island curb at the end of the Dan Beard Lane cul-de-sac. The Redding police were able to locate the van operator, whom they then persuaded to provide insurance information.

Also on Sept. 21, police received a report of a vehicle striking an object in the parking lot of 58 Redding Road/Route 107. An investigation revealed there was no object struck, and no damage to the vehicle in question.
On Sept. 20, a Peaceable Street resident told police that a person identifying himself as someone dead since 2021 attempted to commit real estate fraud. The investigation remains open.
That same day, on the same road, another resident told police someone had forged his mothers' signature on a check for home improvements. The victim discovered the scam when an overdraft came through on their account for $18,000. The investigation remains open.
The Redding Police Department has sent a warrant to court for review and potential subsequent charges in the case of a Route 107 resident who told police a check for the amount of $765 was stolen and cashed. On Sept. 20, the victim told police that someone pried open his bedroom door, inside a shared rented residence, and that the signature of the victim's roommate was on the check.
