“Rich, Yale, Huskies, chowder, suburban and misspelled” are some of the words Reddit users used when describing the state.
Here are our 16 favorite words that Redditors picked to tell the world what comes to their mind when they think of Connecticut:

- Yale: New Haven is the home to Yale University, a private Ivy League university.
- Huskies/UConn: Academics is a strong point in Connecticut and the state is also home to the University of Connecticut, a public research university.
- Rich/ Pretentious/Taxes: Connecticut is home to a lot of wealthy residents as well as some fantastic homes.
- Nice: Yeah, we think it’s nice too!
- Small/Square: Both excellent adjectives to describe the size and shape of the state.
- Chowder: According to Connecticut History, chowder purists claim that the stripped down version of Connecticut chowder lets the true clam taste shine through.
- Maury :The Maury Show is filmed in Stamford.
- Gilmore: The popular TV series Gilmore Girls was based in the fictional Connecticut town of Stars Hollow. The characters often visit Hartford, New Haven and Woodbridge.
- Liberal/ Blue: The state currently has a democratic governor and is politically ‘blue’ meaning residents predominantly vote for the Democratic party.
- Commuters: A lot of residents work in the greater New York Metropolitan area and use a variety of ways to commute.
- Misspelled/Unspellable/ Why the three Cs?: I’ve never had a problem with this, anyone else?
- Cold/Snow: I think we can all say this winter is a testament to those two words.
- Hartford: The state capital.

- New England/Eastern: The state is geographically situated in this area.
- Beaches: The Connecticut shoreline is home to some gorgeous beaches.
