Weston Dog Park Narrowly Passes Vote

WESTON, CT -- By an extremely tight margin of only 888 to 798, Weston residents voted to approve the idea of building a dog park at the Moore Property, a 36-acre municipally owned parcel of land, located on Davis Hill Road. Today's special Town Meeting machine vote was held at Weston Town Hall from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and caps a contentious campaign of nearly two years.

The notion of a community dog park was first presented in Town Hall by Weston Dog Park founder Maria Calamito-Proto on May 5, 2016. Weston Dog Park is a non-profit 501(C)(3) which was formed to raise money to build the park.

Along the way, vocal online communities on both sides of the issue arose. Dog park opponents objected to the costs, had concerns about the park's ecological impact or believed the Moore property could be put to a better use.
